PIGMENT FOR OVERDIPPING ( for molds and pillars)
Question: When is overdipping used in candles or molds? Answer: Overdipping is a technique used in candle making to add an extra layer of wax or paraffin, which can enhance the appearance, color, and even the scent of the candle. It’s usually applied after the candle has been formed and cooled.
Overdipping can be used to:
Question: Can I use vegetable wax for overdipping? Answer: Yes, you can use vegetable wax for overdipping candles. Vegetable wax is a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional paraffin, which is derived from petroleum.
Vegetable waxes, such as soy, coconut, palm, and rapeseed, are biodegradable and burn cleaner, producing less soot. When using vegetable wax for overdipping, it’s important to ensure that the wax is at the correct temperature so as not to melt the base candle.
Additionally, vegetable wax can offer a slower burn and better fragrance retention, which is ideal for scented candles. Remember to follow safety instructions when handling hot wax and perform overdipping in a safe environment, away from children and pets.

We recommend using Bekro dye at 0.1%, so this 10g bag will color approximately 5kg of wax.
Soy and other vegetable waxes may require additional loading to achieve deep color.
The image shows an approximation of the dye colors when used in paraffin wax. Actual colors will vary with the wax and additives used.
Please test to achieve your ideal color.
Overdipping is a decorative candle-making technique that involves dipping an already made candle ( mold) into a different wax to add color, texture, or to protect embedded objects. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to perform overdipping:
Prepare the Overdipping Wax: Choose a wax suitable for overdipping, such as high-melt-point wax. You can add stearic acid or microcrystallines to make the wax harder.
Set Up Your Dipping Station: Use a double boiler to melt the overdipping wax. The wax should be about 20 degrees above its melting point to ensure smooth dipping.
Warm the Candles: Before overdipping, ensure the candles are warm to help the layers adhere properly. You can warm them in an oven set to a low temperature for a few minutes.
Dip the Candles: Hold the candle by the wick using pliers and dip it into the melted wax. Make sure there’s enough wax to cover the candle but not so much that it overflows when the candle is submerged.
Cool the Candles: After dipping, immediately submerge the candle in a bucket of cool water to set the wax and give it a glossy finish.
Add Layers or Colors: For striped candles, use masking tape to cover areas where you want to keep the base color. Dip in different colors and remove the tape after drying.
Remember, the key to successful overdipping is ensuring the wax is at the correct temperature and the candles are warm enough to bond with the new layer of wax. Happy crafting!
Be Inspired
Do you feel anxious in a yellow room? Does the color blue make you feel calm and relaxed? Artists and interior designers have long believed that color can dramatically affect moods, feelings, and emotions. "Colors, like features, follow the changes of the emotions," the artist Pablo Picasso once remarked.
Color is a powerful communication tool and can be used to signal action, influence mood, and even influence physiological reactions.
In this beautiful world of home fragrances, choosing the right product/color to work properly with your wax and fragrance makes a huge difference.
As the fragrances we are using are oils we should use oil soluble dyes.
